The album was finally released on December 24, 2024, after fifteen years of anticipation going back as early as 2009.
In 2015, following the release of his eighth studio album, Mudface, Redman was interviewed about his personal ranking of his own albums, and in that interview, Red stated that Mudface was more of an EP to hold the fans over until Muddy Waters Toofinally dropped.
In 2018, Redman began to release various singles. This began with “I Love Hip Hop,” released on June 22, 2018. Then, on July 13, 2018, he released “Ya!,” which stated at the bottom of the cover art “From the Muddy Waters Too movement.” This gave the fans hope that Red was finally rolling out the album.
Throughout 2018 and into 2019, he released more singles: “1990 Now,” “Tear It Up,” the Kazzie-assisted “Trap House” and the Pressure-assisted “Black Man In America.” However, after this, Redman did not release again until 2020s 3 JointsEP.
Red began to release singles throughout 2021 and 2022, including “80 Barz,” “So Cool” and “Jane.”The cover art for “So Cool” showed Red sat next to the famous sunflower in a jar from the original Muddy Waters cover art, which further increased anticipation for the album at the time. In November 2024, the rollout for Muddy Waters Too was revived once again, with Redman releasing the new lead single “Don’t Wanna C Me Rich” on November 26, 2024. Just two weeks later, the album’s second single “Jersey” was released on December 10, 2024. The full album was finally released another two weeks later on Christmas Eve.
