FAQs

What type of music do you buy?
Genres we buy: Rock, Jazz, Blues, R&B / Soul / Funk, Soundtracks, Country, Rap, Punk, Metal, Christmas, Children’s, Reggae, World, Audiophile, and more. (CLASSICAL & GOSPEL buying is on hold until further notice)

Do You Hold Records?

Yes we do. We hold records up to 48 hours (2 Days) after being pulled from our crates. If more time is needed, be sure to CONTACT US as soon as possible.
Some of these are old. Like, really old.
That's okay! We buy vinyl albums from the past - today. We're interested in all ages of 33 1/3 LPs (this is what most people think about when they think of records) and 45 rpm singles.

How much do you pay?
1/3 to 1/2 of what we think we can re-sell them for. Most of the used records in our store sell for between $1 - $15. Although, we do sell more valuable records for much more than that. Our records are priced on: TITLE, RECORD CONDITION, TITLE PRESSING and the NUMBER OF COPIES WE HAVE. If you're curious what your records are worth we encourage you to take a look around the store to see if we have any of the same records in similar condition for sale right now. ALL RECORDS ARE NOT GOLD MINES, some are not worth the cost that EBay or Discogs may have (their prices are subjective).

I saw on eBay & Discogs this record is selling for a thousand dollars.
Record values vary greatly depending on condition and the unique pressing (year it was made, country it was made in, pressing plant it came from, & etc.). We have many years of experience determining the value of records and have a reputation of paying fairly for records that are worth a pretty penny. Most records are not worth $100 or even a $1000. If it's actually worth $1,000 though, you'll be leaving with a smile on your face.

Not all of them have their jackets. There may be scratches on some. But some are still sealed!
We buy records in a variety of conditions but not all. The better the condition, the more it's worth; some records are sought after even in lesser condition. WE DO require that records have their original jacket.

Will you buy all of my records?
We do make exceptions depending on the collection. We can only buy records we think we can re-sell. There are various charities in the Midlands area that accept vinyl donations and we make regular trips to drop off records for donation. We're happy to take any records that you'd like to donate.

Do you do consignment?
We do not offer consignment on records, but we do offer consignments on ARTIST/BAND/LOCAL MUSICIAN MERCHANDISE (VINYL/CDs/etc.) and specific STEREO/AUDIO/TURNTABLE equipment. Please send us an email to discuss- turntablecity@gmail.com

Do you make house call appointments?
Yes! If you have 100-300+ records we can discuss the possibility of a house call. We will travel to states throughout the Southeast and no collection is too large. Please send us an email to discuss - turntablecity@gmail.com

Do you pay more in store credit?
Yes! We pay about 20% more in store credit. If we offer $80 in cash, that’s $100 in store credit.

Do you buy CDs, tapes, 45s, 78s, laser discs, turntables, speakers, or amplifiers?
Yes we buy 45s, Turntables, Speakers, and Amplifiers (depends on condition). We have recently begun to buy CDs & Tapes for our ONLINE ONLY SECTIONS (their condition and title are HIGHLY scrutinized before we buy them). On average we pay up to a $1 per Tape or CD. This is dependent on condition and title.

No we do not buy 78s and LASER DISCS

Please send us an email to discuss- turntablecity@gmail.com

I only have a few records to sell. That okay?
Totally! Even if you only have one record we'd be happy to look at it.

Do you do appraisals?
WE DO NOT. If you bring your records to us we trust that you're interested in selling them, not having them appraised. We won't break down our offer record-by-record, we'll just let you know how much we can pay for a batch of records.

Can I just bring them by or do I need an appointment?
You do not need an appointment to drop them off, but setting one is RECOMMENDED. The average time it takes to thoroughly go through all dropped off records is between 7 to 10 Business Days. Depending on the collection it may take longer. Drop off your records and leave your contact information with us for a call back. All records will be looked at when time permits. Reminder, ALL RECORDS WILL BE LOOKED AT WHEN TIME PERMITS. Our in store customer service is always top priority and to ensure this, all records brought to us will definitely be put on a call back list once they have been looked over. Please call or email us to set an appointment. You can stop by any time we're open to drop them off, but all records will be looked at when time permits. Store hours and physical address are listed on our Contact Page.

Do I have to drop them off?
Yes. Even if it's a small amount. Unless we set up an house call with you.

How do I know you won't lose any of my records since I have to leave them with you?
We've been buying and selling used records since we opened and we've never once lost anyone's records. We have enough storage dedicated to records that have been dropped off. Everyone's records are in crates, bags or boxes that are individually marked with that person's name and phone number.

How long does it take?
Typically 7- 10 days but we ask for up to a week just to be safe (Large collections from 7 to14 days). We will give you an email or we will call/text you with the information about your dropped off records. We will provide you with a Cash offer and a Store Credit offer. You choose which works best for you. If you choose to decline our offer, no worries, just schedule a time to pick up your records during open store hours.

What if I cannot pick up my cash/check payment or decide not to sell my records to Turntable City?

Once an offer is made on your records (meaning we have called you or texted you with this information), please make arrangements to stop by our storefront and pick up your payment or please provide us with an address so we may place your payment in the mail (Post Office Money Order). If you decide not to accept our offer for the records you are selling, you HAVE ONE WEEK to come pick them up/make new arrangements. IF YOU DO NOT PICK THEM UP OR MAKE NEW ARRANGEMENTS, you FORFEIT your records to us and we will keep them to do as we please. Please do not let this happen. Be responsible and make the best decision for all of us.

Where do I park?
We have tons of available parking in front and in the rear of the store. Please find a safe spot near us and come on in.

Can you help me get them out of my car?
Yes! We have a hand truck and are happy to come out to your car and bring your records into the store. Call us when you park or come on in and we'll walk out with you.

Do I get a receipt?
Yes! We'll give you a slip of paper with our contact information that has the date you dropped off your records, your name, our contact info, and our buying disclaimer.

How will you contact me?
We will give you a call or text. We'll also send you an email if we cannot reach you by phone. Reminder, We will give you an email or we will call/text you with the information about your dropped off records. If we don't hear back after a few days we'll follow up again via phone or text.

How long do I have to decide if I'd like to accept the offer or not?
7 days from the offer date.

Can you mail me a check or money order?
We sure can! Your payment will be mailed in a certified letter that needs your signature to confirm receipt.
If you have any other questions please give us a call or send us an email. We'd be happy to discuss!
